Technology
“Technology” is a pretty uninformative term. After all, the wheel is “technology” (and a pretty good technology too!).
So far, when talking about technology, we’ve been generally talking about:
- web development
- software development
- mobile applications
- database management
- gaming
- server management
- data security
- probably other technology that this particular writer doesn’t understand and so forgot to list.
There are huge areas of technology not covered here, and the primary reason is that (again, as far as this writer knows) there isn’t a lot of it going on in Tacoma. Email info@tacomatech.org with suggested updates.
Social Media
Everyone’s a Twitter expert, right?
Social media has definitely been a part of the Tacoma Technology discussions. Through early hyper-local sites like Exit133.com and FeedTacoma Tacomans have been early adopters of social media tools.
From blogging platforms to mobile check-in services to creating Twitter APIs, social media is definitely part of the conversation.
Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship isn’t just about technology, of course, but the principles of entrepreneurship are important to a technology ecosystem in Tacoma.
It’s the entrepreneurs who will create the companies that we want to employ the tech workers. It’s the entrepreneurs who will come up with a new product that will make our jobs or our lives easier. It’s the entrepreneurs who will take their companies public and then retire at 26 and spend the rest of their days giving away their fortune to worthy Tacoma non-profits (it could happen).
Yes, we definitely like entrepreneurs.
